The NAH program trained me to be a classical homeopath but beyond that I learned more deeply & intimately what it means to be a healer. . . This program inspired me in a different way than chiropractic school did. I developed a keen sense of listening and understanding, and I learned to be more present and compassionate with not only my clients but myself. Carla Breunig, DC, CCH When I became a student at NAH, after a career as an ordained minister, I assumed my lack of medical training would be a serious handicap, but soon realized that was not the case--in fact, I believe it made my transition to the homeopathic understanding of heath (in contrast to conventional medicine's model of disease) easier. As a recent graduate of NAH, my goal is to help others become free of limitations and develop to their full potential, physically and spiritually--a very gratifying form of ministry for me. While building my new practice is a challenging task, I am struck by how able and well-prepared I am--testmony to the commitment of NAH's founders and faculty to preparing their students to practice the art and science of homeopathy. Pam McAlister I've been in practice for just over 10 years, initially as a conventional medical doctor, later incorporating more alternative medicine. NAH has given me a deep understanding of homeopathic remedies. The instructors have gained great insights into the nature of the remedy from their years of experience as practitioners; they have knowledge that can not be found in the books and they are marvelously adept at communicating their knowledge to the students. My study at NAH has increased the accuracy of my prescribing immeasurably. A heartfelt thanks on behalf of myself and my patients! Sandra Herbage, MD As a Physician Assistant for 14 years and a graduate of NAH , I have appreciated the school's emphasis on clinical experience & management. Although my previous training provided a starting point, the NAH program introduced me to the greater subtleties of homeopathic care. The knowledge and skills I acquired from the school have been of central importance for my smooth transition into the practice of homeopathy. David Johnson, PA My first acquaintance with homeopathy was attending a community education offering. I am a professional trombone player and had been thinking about a career which would enable me to balance my interest in healing, the responsibilities of motherhood and my love of music. Although I had some trepidation about entering the program with no medical background, I soon discovered that I did understand the concepts and enjoyed the challenge of an entirely new and intensive learning experience. As I have been building my practice as a professional homeopath, I have been able to continue to perform as a freelance musician with an opera company, teach music on a part-time basis, and raise my three children. For those who may ask, I believe you can be a productive homeopathic practitioner while maintaining other professional interests and family commitments. Sue Roberts As a second year student at Northwestern Academy of Homeopathy, I continue to be amazed at the quality of instruction that I am receiving. I carefully scrutinized several schools before deciding on NAH. As a physician I was concerned about the quality of education I would receive. What drew me to NAH was the emphasis on clinical experience. The impact of studying homeopathy has been tremendous. I am beginning to look at my patients in a totally new light. When I hear my fellow physicians speak of illness and disease as though they were some foreign invaders--totally detached from the person and needing to be attacked with powerful weapons that kill and destroy--I feel disturbed at modern American medicine's lack of understanding. Each class I attend, I become more inspired by homeopathy's insight into the nature of Nature. I feel grateful for the opportunity to serve my patients with this powerful healing art. Wanda Bedinghaus, MD Before attending NAH, I had participated in NCH summer school for several years, studied with an NCH study group for 8 years, even taught the acute care group. I was concerned, when I joined at the beginning of the NAH program, that I might not be challenged. My fears were allayed the very first weekend; the course was taught in such a professional way that even though some was review for me, I always came away with more knowledge and a deeper understanding. It reminded me of learning about Quantum Chromodynamics from Scientific American; you begin with the basics and are led logically through to an advanced level. I commuted to Minnesota from Colorado, nearly doubling the cost of my training. However, I found the instruction to be outstanding and the clinical experience invaluable and have never regretted a single day I put into the program. Pat Taggart, BSMT As Marcel Proust said, "The real voyage of discovery consists
not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes." After all
the science classes I'd taken during my medical training, this more
humanistic approach was a welcome relief! Eric taught us to look at
things in an entirely new way; his approach was especially enjoyable
because he brought together information from so many different disciplines. Now that I am in practice, I'm realizing that the family perspectives
we gained in our study of the natural sciences is extremely useful in
settling upon an appropriate remedy. Relating remedies to the Periodic
Table becomes an effective way to remember and retrieve from a large
number of choices. Learning shared characteristics within the numerous
animal and plant families helps the practitioner to focus in on and
be able to utilize even the smaller remedies within a selected family.
This relational study of remedy families provides a sound and useful
way for the practicing homeopath to navigate through a huge amount of
information. I took a lot of science courses during my college years but I found myself so caught up in understanding the parts that I wouldn't comprehend how the parts fit into the whole! My college sciences were often dry, lacking soul, requiring a lot of memorization. With the holistic sciences at NAH, I could enjoy the science we learned. Eric successfully married together many different points of view and synthesized a broad amount of information into a whole which had a life of its own. A common language was created for the students with which to explore the natural sciences; it was nondenominational but included an essential spiritual component quite lacking in the ordinary teaching of science.
